Data
profiling is a technique
used to analyze the content, quality, and structure of source data.
Data Profiling has got an
important role to play as far as Infomatica is concerned. Data profiling allows
users to profile the source data according to the business validations. For example
you can apply profile on a source column to check for invalid rows, distinct
values
A data profile contains the source definitions, the
functions and function parameters, and the profile session run parameters. We
can create a data profile by using Profile Wizard from the Power Center
Designer.
A data profile is created
by using Informatica Designer. When you create a profile, the Designer
generates a mapping and a session based on the profile information.Using profile manager we
can view the data profiles that we have created
Data profiles can be of two
types
- Auto profile: In auto profile we do the profiling of the source data with the help of some predefined functions which is already defined in the Data Profile created
- Custom profile: In custom profile the functions needed to profile the source data are created by the user. Use a custom profile during mapping development to validate documented business rules about the source data.
Will be updating more about
this topic in my next post…….
The dataprofiling process helps improve and maintain data quality by uncovering anomalies at the source and eliminating redundancies. New policies or procedures can then correct those issues, and the subsequent data management will provide more valuable results.
