DAX in Power BI - Where DAX can be used? - DAX Functions - What is Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)?

Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) is a library of functions and operators that can be combined together to build formulas and create expressions. As mentioned above, DAX is a formula expression language and can be used in Analysis Services, Power Pivot in Excel data models and in different business intelligence or visualization tools like Power BI.

It is also known as a functional language, where the complete code is kept inside a function. DAX formulas include functions, operators, and values to perform advanced calculations and queries based on the data in related tables and columns in tabular data models. DAX programming formulas contain two data types: Numeric and Other. The Numeric datatype includes - integers, currency and decimals, while Other datatype includes: string and binary object. Each one is linked to the other by having common columns. DAX formulas are essential for creating calculations in calculated columns and measures, and securing your data by implementing row-level security.
